Ebook About Constructive Living is a Western approach to mental health education based in large part on adaptations of two Japanese psychotherapies, Morita therapy and Naikan therapy. Constructive Living (CL) presents an educational method of approaching life realistically and thoughtfully. The action aspect of CL emphasizes accepting reality (including feelings), focusing on purposes, and doing what needs doing. The reflection aspect of CL enables us to understand the present and past more clearly and to live in recognition of the support we receive from the world.Book Constructive Living (Kolowalu Books (Paperback)) Review :
In April of 2017 I had a stroke, brain bleed. While my blood pressure was be regulated as the staff adjusted medication I laid the hospital bed sad that I wasn’t dead. My thought was that I was on this planet long enough and I deserved to go home somewhere into the stars. But for some reason the universe wanted me here. After I returned home I was deeply depressed and angry for still being alive. It was then when I really started looking for answers to my state of being.I spent most of my life look for answers in my emotions, where did they come from, why did they exist, and how could I get rid of them. When I got out the hospital my search just took on a stronger need to find a solution, but I was still looking at at the emotions as the cause. I didn’t understand that my emotions where just effects.I frequent a Reddit group online that focuses on giving people the space to entertain ideas about anything without criticism. One day someone posted a message about how this person’s life was improving emotionally and socially due to a regiment of taking care of ones surroundings, taking out the trash, making the bed and working on projects to repair the house.A conversation took place as to the concepts behind the idea of improving one’s life by physical action in the world, someone brought up Constructive Living as a practice to learn how to heal depression. The commenter talked about the idea that the emotions of sadness, and anger could be indicators of what action we are not taking in the world. I thought to my self, this makes total sense. I went to the website and read some of the precepts. The next day I started practicing Constructive Living practices in my daily life.Everyday I went to bed went the sun set, and rose when the sun rose, made my bed, took a walk, and did some writing. Basically I kept doing actions that needed to be done and forgave myself when I messed up. When emotions came up I accepted them and brought them into my doings and kept at it. I must have been ready for this practice because for some reason I did not have the problem of getting board or lazy. Maybe I though for a second or two that I might not want to do something but then I stopped my thought process and started doing the thing I needed to do. As I kept at this, it got easier and easier to make a routine out of it.It’s hard to look back now and see how I was. I spent many years thinking that if I didn’t feel good about myself I was justified in not taking corrective action to make my world a better place. Now I know better. Right action in my life created in myself the strength, will and desire to do what needs`` to be done. Its a slow process, and for anyone willing to try this method to heal depression, it works when you consistently apply yourself and forgive yourself when you cant. The "Constructive Living" is a short 100 page book on a Japanese therapy technique called Morita therapy for treating depression, and anxiety as well as failure, shyness, fear, grief, lack of energy, or relationship problems. Morita therapy was developed by a professor of psychiatry, Prof. Morita, and has at least a solid 50 years of success in Japan. The therapy is incredibly simple concepts yet difficult to master (like most things from Japan):1. Focus on behavior as a process to change your mental state and make your life better and make you a better person.2. Focus on the outside world and not yourself.3. Just keep trying. If you get discouraged then recognize the feeling and take action to change what you're doing to respond to the circumstances,4. Accept feelings and keep to your purpose of being responsible.5. Focus on the outside world by being actively doing exercise and activities like work or charity.6. Don't wait to feel up to doing something to give it a try.7. Feelings will eventually align with behaviour.8. Focus on 1. your current action and 2. experiencing the now.9. Face your feelings even if unpleasant and guide your behavior.10. Try, and if you fail try again and again thus lose the suffering and triumph.11. Balance being shy against reckless boldness by paying attention and acting purposely.12. You don't need confidence to act.13. You can't control your emotions but you can best influence them by behaviour.
